necessary because of the light volume of traffic past the colosseum with with tail lights past high street. north of there, there is construction. southbound side you see a little slowing south of 980. clear down to high street. we have an issue on the shoulder. the remains of a car fire, actually a van fire north 880 at the winton ramp. everyone is safe and the fire is out. there may be a crew there and perhaps a charred van. back to you. thank you very much. we could learn more about the death of a 13-year-old girl. police plan to hold a news conference to discuss leads in the investigation. yesterday they released a picture showing janel allen shortly before she disappeared thursday afternoon. her body was found friday morning in a park in fairfield. neighbors say wonderful things about janel. just the same. she was as tall as some of them.

"today in the bay's" christine smith has this coming up in the next hour. >> three men are dead and a killer on the loose after a triple homicide in s is onoma county. the bodies of the men were found inside a cabin located on ross station road near iron host vineyards in the town of forestville. police say all three men were shot to death in a back bedroom of the home. officers haven't released the men's identities or how they may be related. they say this doesn't appear to be a murder-suicide. >> new this morning the

pittsburgh man prosecutors believe gunned down an activist is out of jail this morning. a judge released gregory elan on tuesday on the condition he will appear at future court date. he was facing murder charges for the shooting death of lewis in 2010. a judge dismissed the murder charge in november. police illegally forced a confession from him. the incompetent attorney appealed the decision. >> new developments in the case around a millionaire. later this morning, prosecutors asking a judge to add raven dixon's name as a co-defendant in the murder trial. three men ready to stand trial for the murder of rob by kumra. prosecutors say dixon gave the men information to allow them to break into the estate. kumra a was robbed and killed. his wife was beaten.

>> it is 4:34. redwood city schools are plang safety drills in the wake of the newtown, connecticut school shooting. the police department announced this week it wants to send daily patrol offers to visit schools and plans to run a drill for the schools in the fall. the drill would simulate a lockdown with an active shooter on campus including loud speaker announcements, barricading doorss and covering windows. some schools are conducting such drills. this is what happened at a modesto school this week. in this simulation, two gun men

opened fire on students. they lie on the ground covered in fake blood. officers shot one suspect while another hid in a classroom. s.w.a.t. team members went room to room searching. it drew criticism saying the newtown, connecticut shooting is still too fresh. planning for the drill actually began in august, before that tragedy. several months before the tragedy. >> all eyes are on the boy scouts of america today. the organization's national executive board meeting in texas where they are considering reversing the long-standing bay on gay members and leaders. the board expected to vote sometime today on a new policy to allow local troops to decide themselves on this issue. a bay area family following the news closely is the family of ryan anderson. he's the openly gay scout who

was denied the rank of eagle scout after a completing his necessary requirements. this morning, calling the policy change a baby step in the right direction. >> a san francisco 49er who made headlines during the super bowl for homophobic remarks isn't running from the comments. he's now asking the trevor project for sensitivity training. trevor project helps lgbt youth through crisis. staff will help understand how hurtful words lead to tragedy. >> they live with hate and the impact it has. we see it as an opportunity to educate chris. >> they will meet in the coming weeks. a spokesperson says the team will reach out to lgbt groups as well. >> 4:37 now. let's find out about the wednesday/hump day forecast.

>> good morning. i hope there is nojar-jar binks. the markets rebounding nicely recovering from the day's losses. the nasdaq had its second best day of the year so far. we don't have major economic news. we are getting earnings from time warner, waiting on visa at news corp. the dow rising to 13,979. the nasdaq added 40 to 4171. the nasdaq reportedly in settlement talks with the s.e.c. over the botched facebook ipo last year. the wall street journal said a deal would likely include a $5 million fine or 1% of what market makers and brokers say they lost pause of technical glitches during facebook's ipo lost may. nasdaq offered to pay firms $62

million. but they think they lost $500 million there. they are not ready to take that offer. breaking news. the post office is reportedly cutting saturday delivery of things like magazines and letters. they will continue to deliver packages. they will make that announcement later. >> thank you. talk to you later on. >> no magazines but you will still get the bills. the coast guard prompted to take action. coast guard and california state parks will hold a news conference today in half moon bay to educate beach goers about hazards of so-called sneaker waves. so far they have claimed the lives of two people this year alone on california beaches. last week a woman was killed after a large wave swept her and her dog out to sea. never turn your back on the

islands near the santa cruz islands. this photo the only image released so far showing the aftermath. you can see the devastation. officials say the quake triggered two tsunamis, each wave five feet high. there are report it is water destroyed entire villages there and parts of the island's airports. we have new video from fiji showing how people all over the south pacific rushed to higher ground moments after the tsunami warning went out. at least five people are confirmed dead. the number is expected to rise as crews arrive at the remote scene later today. the tsunami warning has been lifted in that area. >> 4:49. president obama will lay out his second term agenda when he meets with top democratic leaders in washington. the white house says he will push for medicare reform and a ban on assault weapons, something members of his party oppose. part of the plan, immigration

this time of day. mike will have the details. christina talking about a decent day ahead. 4:53 and this week marks one year until the winter games get rolling in russia. the city shifting into ready mode. >> crews are busy upgrading the current infrastructure. millions are expected to visit town for the games. there will be 12 new events including women's ski jump. athletes are preparing for the games. and for one of the most celebrated women on team usa. >> now has dropped back -- lindsey vonn over the back and she's down heavily. >> yeah. when they slow it down you can see her knee wrenched there. lindsey vonn needing reconstructive surgery after tearing two major ligaments in the fall. this happened yesterday at the world championships in austria.

just before she vanished. christine smith has a look at the video and new details on the investigation. >> good morning. fairfield police plan to release new details on the case today. possibly this afternoon. meantime they are asking for the public's help in trying to solve the case. i want to show you what the park looks like this morning. this is the park where janel allen's body was found. facebooks and frienfamily and ft up a video. first a photo of the teen taken minutes before she disappeared and hours before her body was discovered. wearing a gray sweater, blue jean style legs and a pink backpack. it was taken near is a soon city, an area described as rough. police aren't saying if they know who she was speaking with with on the cell phone in that photo. this video that only nbc bay area has
